The PCP submitted a request this Wednesday in the Assembly of the Republic for the Minister of Defense, Helena Carreiras, to be heard in the National Defense Commission together with the professional associations of the army.
The request follows the publication, last Monday (the 14th), of an ordinance amending the merit assessment scheme of armed forces personnel. According to Diário da República Eletrônico, this regulation “produces significant changes in the way the merit of the military is evaluated, in a model common to the three branches of the armed forces, which is based on the principle of meritocracy”.
But although the document states that the associations were heard in the process, the PCP wants more, even because they themselves feel “not properly involved in this process”reads the document delivered by the party and signed by deputy Bruno Dias.
Therefore, and also want “deepen the knowledge of the changes now initiated” as they not only try to understand the revision process and know what the military thinks, but the communists intend to hear the professionals and also the defense minister on this issue.
