The PCP succeeded in passing part of a proposed amendment to the state budget to gradually remove architectural barriers, failing the funding program for this purpose for housing for people with disabilities.
On the first day of voting on the state budget for 2023, it was asked to vote in a split fashion on the PCP’s proposal to remove architectural barriers.
Thus the point that states that the government must take “take the necessary and appropriate measures to comply with accessibility legislation and progressively remove architectural barriers and make the necessary adjustments to ensure access for persons with disabilities” it was approved by votes for all parties, with the exception of IL, which abstained.
The other two points were not achieved.
So, “the design and implementation of a funding program for the adaptation and elimination of architectural barriers in housing for disabled people with reduced mobility” was refused, as was the transfer of funds from the Ministry of Finance for this program.
According to the PCP, to justify this proposal, “the right to an autonomous, dignified and independent life is denied to thousands of people with disabilities, who often cannot move around their towns and cities and have no access to public buildings”🇧🇷
“The PCP considers it inadmissible that access to public buildings – whether owned by central, regional or local government – remains out of reach for all people, as there are still architectural barriers that urgently need to be broken down. more than 35 years have passed since the first legal attempt to remove architectural barriers, there has been a continued lack of political accountability and technical standards are not respected in most buildings, establishments and equipment for public use and public roads, we believe it is urgent that measures are taken to solve this problem”refers.
