Emmanuel Macron promised this Thursday, October 9, to take Robert Badinter’s fight “to the universal abolition” of the death penalty during his speech at the pantheonization of the former Minister of Justice.
“Robert Badinter enters the Pantheon with the lights and spirit of 1789 […] with the principles of the rule of law, a certain idea of man inseparable from the republican ideal,” he declared at the beginning of his speech.
The coffin bearing the name of Robert Badinter, who died in February 2024 at the age of 95, was transported to the old church in the center of Paris, converted into a funerary monument that bears on its pediment the motto “To the great men, the grateful country.”
