“I know the weight of history”: Marine Tondelier apologizes after declaring that an elected official of the Gaza flotilla was going to be “deported” by Israel

The head of the Ecologists Marine Tondelier is accused of having declared this Friday, October 10, that a “deportation” procedure had been initiated against the Mélissa Camara, detained in Israel for having participated in the humanitarian flotilla to Gaza.

After the controversy, the national secretary of Ecologists Marine Tondelier presents her “apologies.” The regional advisor of Altos de Francia was criticized for having declared this Friday on TF1 that the environmental Mélissa Camara, detained in Israel after being detained while she was part of a humanitarian flotilla heading to Gaza, was going to be “deported.” The chosen northerner must be deported to Jordan this Sunday before returning to France on Monday.

“I said that a ‘deportation’ procedure had been initiated, apologizing in advance for this term that I was ashamed to pronounce but which was the legal term that I had in front of me. The word was not appropriate and, in fact, it was poorly translated in the documents that were given to me. I apologize for this,” declared Marine Tondelier on the X program this Saturday, October 11.

“The English word ‘deportation’, which does not have the same emotional charge in the Anglo-Saxon world as it does in France, applies to both our French words ‘deportation’ and ‘expulsion’,” he explained.

“I know the weight of history”

The head of Ecologistas assured that she does not wish “in any case” to “promote mergers contrary to (her) values and (her) ethics.”

“I know the weight of history, the importance of the issue of memory, and I hope that this controversy ceases because it in no way reflects a political truth. My party and I fight daily against the ignominy of confusionism and even anti-Semitism,” he added.

TF1 presenter Bruce Toussaint notified his guest this Friday that he considered the expression “inappropriate”. To which Marine Tondelier responded “use the term that the authorities themselves use.”

The president of the Representative Council of the Jewish Institutions of France (Crif), Yonathan Arfi, considered that Marine Tondelier thus committed “a mistake that is both historical and moral.” “The deportation, the real one, ripped innocent people from their country to send them to a planned death. The participants in the flotilla are returned to their countries, where they return to their usual lives,” he declared in X.
