The chairman of the PS asks the government for more enthusiasm and stricter action

This Friday, the PS chairman asked the government for a more refined sense of direction, more enthusiasm in action and more rigor in behaviour, warning that in the current political framework the responsibilities of the socialist executive are “non-transferable” .

This warning was conveyed by Carlos César through a video message in the PS session reminiscent of the seven years of socialist governments led by António Costa, which takes place at the Terreiro do Paço river station.

A session attended by the former and current President of the Assembly of the Republic, Ferro Rodrigues and Augusto Santos Silva, respectively, who are joined by the parliamentary leader, Eurico Brilhante Dias, and the deputy secretary general of the PS, João Torres, also such as several members of the current government and former minister Eduardo Cabrita.

The former party chairman of the PS between 2015 and 2019 stated that the absolute majority that the PS achieved in the last parliamentary elections, in addition to “expressive confidence also meant the will of the Portuguese to have a stable government and a policy with a certain course, free from the shocks, constant uncertainties and distortions of an uncertain parliamentary support”🇧🇷

In this new political framework, the former president of the regional government of the Azores and member of the Council of State, “a more refined sense of direction is needed, and at the same time more enthusiasm and more accuracy in behavior and in the performance of tasks” which fall into the hands of the socialists when governing.

“Our current political responsibilities are not transferable. Even given all the difficulties that unexpected events such as the pandemic or the war in Eastern Europe have brought us, or the highest international inflation in recent decades, what we do and what we do, better or worse, we owe it to ourselves. The Portuguese trusted us, so it is up to us to continue to honor the Portuguese’s trust,” he stressed.

Carlos César later quoted the motto of the PS – “Together we achieved it” – but to introduce an addition: “We’ve done it, but we need to do more.”

Still in this intervention logic, the chairman of the PS referred specifically to the sectors in which the government faces challenges.

“We have managed to respond to the pandemic [da covid-19] with an SNS (National Health Service) is up to the challenge, but it is undoubtedly important to improve performance overall from a point of view of care delivery and better administration. We have succeeded in defending our interests at European and international level, but in the turbulence and intersection of interests we are experiencing, which heralds a new cycle, this is an increasingly demanding task that cannot be neglected.”said.

“It is with this nonconformity and the achievement of more ambitious goals that it is worth continuing”completed.

Carlos César also referred to António Costa’s leadership of the PS as over the past seven years his party has “reasserted itself as a factor of stability and national cohesion”.

“And that is why it is good to remember that the mobilizing and enlightened leadership of our Secretary General and Prime Minister of Portugal, António Costa, has contributed and will continue to contribute a lot. For him, and in particular for all those who have followed him In the government, in these seven years, I show my tribute and, I am sure, the support and encouragement of all Portuguese Socialists”he declared.

The chairman of the PS also mentioned that the Portuguese socialists are preparing for the 50th anniversary of their founding in Germany.

“Fifty years after the creation of the PS, we can be proud of the contributions we have made to a more influential Portugal, to a more developed and less unequal Portugal, to a more progressive and democratic Portugal, to a more modern and innovative Portugal.”he concluded.

In the first intervention, the leader of the Federation of the Lisbon Urban Area (FAUL) of the PS, Duarte Cordeiro, declared that the space of the Terreiro do Paço river terminal symbolizes the renovation of the riverbank area carried out by the municipality of the capital in the two socialist eras António Costa and Fernando Medina.

“Minister Pedro Nuno Santos spoke very well today at the closing session of the 2023 Budget”he said before praising António Costa’s leadership.

“As much as they try to distract or provoke us, our focus is on improving the lives of the Portuguese. We have a right wing that is incapable of coming up with a series of coherent proposals and on business bet,” he accused.

Duarte Cordeiro, Minister of the Environment and Climate Action, highlighted the government’s measures in the field of mobility and renewable energy.

“With the transformations we are implementing, we are achieving the goal of producing 80% of electricity from renewable sources. The negative policy and casuistry policy remains with the PSD. And the ability to explain remains with the PSD. , how will we ever rule with the xenophobic, populist and retrograde right we have in Portugal”he added, in reference to Chega.
