For Manuel Bompard, “there is no leader in La France insoumise”

The one who should take the head of LFI wants his formation, in the midst of an internal crisis, to focus on the “battle” that is coming from the left against the reform of executive pensions.

Rank hardening operation in La France insoumise (LFI). A guest of BFMTV-RMC on Tuesday, Manuel Bompard calls on his political party to show “cohesion”, “unity” and to “focus on the battles of the moment”, including, in particular, the fight against the pension reform that the government wants . .

At the moment, Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s party is being hit by two storms. One has been going on for months. The other, weeks. The first refers to Adrien Quatennens, who acknowledged a “slap” towards his wife, before being sentenced to 4 months in prison suspended on December 13.

The question of his return to the Assembly weakens the LFI, which is under attack from all sides by the opposition on this issue. The issue also divides movement activists. Some have signed a platform in The world to demand the exclusion of the representative of the North.

“It belongs to him”

The parliamentary group decided on a 4-month suspension on December 13, but Adrien Quatennens indicated on BFMTV the next day that he wanted to return “from January”. In such a case, he would sit, at least for a time, among the unattached. A possible thorn in the side of the rebels? On BFMTV-RMC, Manuel Bompard supports his party’s choice. “The political group has made a decision […] From that moment on, what he does depends on him and not on me.”

A second internal crisis remains: the new coordination of La France insoumise, of which Manuel Bompard should take the reins in a few days. The chosen one assures him:

“There is no leader in La France insoumise” but “collective organization structures”. Difficult balancing act.

The experts of the movement, not retained in this new direction, have made their discontent known, thus showing openly the divisions of the party. Something strange enough to underline that La France insoumise has gotten used to singing in unison.

Among those who failed: Clémentine Autain and François Ruffin -bearers of a particular voice among the rebels- but also historical figures such as Alexis Corbière, Raquel Garrido or Éric Coquerel.

“Collective”

Manuel Bompard blames the media for this internal crisis. “There has been information transmitted and disseminated in the press that does not correspond to reality,” according to him.

The Bouches-du-Rhône deputy boasts of wanting to “expand as much as possible”. He wants proof of this that the personalities that are not part of the LFI coordination are nevertheless integrated into his political council. Small consolation prize, the function of this body being solely advisory.

To get out of this critical sequence, Manuel Bompard underlines the importance of the “collective” in “this period”. “My challenge is to make this movement useful in the sequence that is coming and in particular in this battle for pensions,” insists the parliamentarian. “Those are the issues that are important today.” Problem: They’re not the only ones on the rebels’ agenda.
