The Conference of Party Representatives of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira on Monday approved the creation of a parliamentary commission of inquiry into “the favoring of economic groups by the regional government and the alleged ‘fabricated works'” by the executive.
“The committee will take office in the coming days. The chairman will be from the Social Democratic party, the vice-chairman and secretary from the Socialist party and the rapporteur will be from one of the parties with the parliamentary majority,” said the chairman. of the Parliament of Madeira at the end of the party representatives’ meeting.
José Manuel Rodrigues set “a deadline of 90 days for the preparation of the report containing the conclusions of this Commission of Inquiry”.
This commission of inquiry is based on a request of a potentative nature submitted by the parliamentary group of the PS/Madeira, the largest political force of the opposition (it occupies 19 of the 47 seats in the chamber).
It is subordinate to the theme of “the favoring of economic groups by the regional government, by the chairman of the regional government and regional secretaries and ‘invented works'”, prone to the practice of various crimes.
This Commission of Inquiry comes after accusations made by former PSD deputy in the Assembly of the Republic, elected by the Madeira Circle, Sérgio Marques, in statements to Diário de Notícias, regarding “works invented from 2000”, when Alberto João Jardim ( PSD) chaired the Madeiran executive and economic groups that grew with the “Garden Finger”.
Sérgio Marques, who was part of Madeira’s board as regional director between 1988 and 1989, said Alberto João Jardim’s board “was fantastic until 2000”.
“began [depois] inventing works, they wanted to continue with the same government plan, the same line, unnecessary works, that logic of development companies, all those crazy investments made by development companies”he claimed.
On the social network Facebook, Sérgio Marques later explained that these statements were given to DN ‘off’, as part of a work on the PSD’s 47 years in power in Madeira, in an “informal part” of the conversation, not least because “they are far from current and relevant”.
The Social Democrat, who also served in Miguel Albuquerque’s government as Regional Secretary for European and Parliamentary Affairs from 2015 to 2017, also said he was removed from office due to the influence of a major economic group in the region.
On Tuesday, Sérgio Marques announced his resignation and departure from the party’s regional political commission following this controversy.
On Thursday, the Assembly of the Republic formalized the resignation of PSD deputy Sérgio Marques and his replacement with João Dinis Santos Ramos, adopting the respective opinion in plenary.
This Monday’s meeting of representatives of the parties with seats in the Assembly of Madeira also included the monthly debate with the regional government on February 2 on education.
Another point of analysis was the two proposals of the PS for the revision of the constitution and the political-administrative status of Madeira.
“These two legislative initiatives were forwarded to the final committee for the deepening of autonomy and reform of the political system,” said the president of the regional parliament.
This committee, chaired by Deputy José Prada (PSD), will also analyze the PSD, CDS-PP and PS proposals for the revision of the regulations of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, said José Manuel Rodrigues.
