Strike of January 31: Fabien Roussel assures that “hundreds of municipalities” will be mobilized

The elected communist had appealed to the mayors to symbolically close their building or facilitate the strike movement of the agents.

Montreuil, Paris, Saint-Pierre-d’Aurillac… Various town halls across the country have responded to his call. On January 23, Fabien Roussel proposed a “solidarity mayors operation” as part of the mobilization against the pension reform, in particular to allow civil servants to go on strike on January 31.

Several city councils have publicly responded to the call of the PCF National Secretariat, such as Anne Hidalgo who announced that the Hôtel de Ville de Paris would be symbolically closed on this date, judging the situation as “too serious”.

If he concedes that it is “difficult to count”, Fabien Roussel assures this Sunday that “hundreds of city councils” will mobilize against the pension reform.

“Several Hundred”

“Several hundred town halls will symbolically close, or allow their agents to demonstrate without loss of salary or put up banners,” he told the Europe 1 microphone.

In Faches-Thumesnil (North), the rebel mayor Patrick Proisy even went so far as to announce that he would not remove strike hours from the salaries of his municipal agents.

“The mayors are fed up”, added Fabien Roussel, “they are the ones who best defend our public services, they are the sentinels of the Republic”.

“Social Chaos”

The PCF candidate for the 2022 presidential election calls on the French in response to “mobilize and show for one day, everyone, whether we are business leaders, artisans, employees, workers, local elected officials, an unwavering, peaceful determination.”

“Nobody wants a blockade but everyone rejects this reform, what are our means to defend ourselves? What are the tools, what are the means for people to prevent the implementation of a reform they don’t want, right?” he asked.

“The French are up against a stubborn prime minister and a tough, direct government that says ‘we won’t give up,'” says the communist-elect.

“They choose social chaos, they choose to fracture France, damage democracy and not respect the people,” he finally denounced.
