Two Nupe deputies and one majority deputy. The second rounds of the three partial legislative elections took place this Sunday in the Pas-de-Calais, the Marne and the Charente. These elections had been provoked after decisions to invalidate the results of last June by the Constitutional Council.
Two Nupes candidates were elected at the end of this second round in Charente and Pas-de-Calais, against a candidate from the majority and one from the National Rally. Finally in the Marne, a presidential majority candidate overthrew the outgoing RN deputy.
These three polls were marked by high abstention rates: only 30%, or even less, of voters participated.
An LFI candidate frees the Renaissance deputy in the Charente
National Assembly will welcome “new deputy LFI-NUPES”, tweeted the candidate René Pilatowho won the second round of the legislative elections in the first district of Charente this Sunday evening.
René Pilato won with 50.99% of the votes cast ahead of presidential majority candidate and Horizons spokesman Thomas Mesnier (49.01%). That’s a difference of 474 votes according to the prefectural figures. The participation rate was 30.21%. The results are provisional pending the meeting of the control commission that will take place on Monday morning.
The margin was already very close in the first round between the two candidates (42 votes difference) with a result of 35.54% for Thomas Mesnier, 35.36 for René Pilato.
“One less macronista deputy who retires at 64 years of age. One more deputy of the LFI who retires at 60”, rejoiced the leader of the LFI, Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
Asked about his defeat, Thomas Mesnier said that “there has been a withdrawal effect in recent days.” “I think the context was difficult. I had talked about a headwind campaign. In the last few days it was more of a headwind than storm!”
An outgoing RN deputy defeated on the Marne by a majority candidate
In the 2nd constituency of the Marne, United Presidential Majority candidate Laure Miller won, ahead of outgoing RN MP Anne-Sophie Frigout. “I measure the measure of expectations but also the sum of anger. It is to give him an answer that I got into politics ”, tweeted the news of the chosen ones.
“Congratulations on your election. This victory rewards your commitment on the field and your loyalty to our common struggles,” Renaissance Secretary General Stéphane Séjourné tweeted.
“Disappointed, of course”, tweeted Anne-Sophie Frigout from her side“but very proud of the campaign that has been carried out.”
Laure Miller was elected with 51.8% of the votes compared to 48.2% of the votes of the deputy RN, in a second round marked by an abstention of 74.83%. Laure Miller, who was however more than four points behind her opponent at the end of the first round, benefited from a good transfer of votes to win.
The outgoing socialist deputy, winner in Pas de Calais
In the 8th constituency of Pas-de-Calais (Saint-Omer and surroundings) the outgoing deputy Bertrand Petit, from the socialist and related group, was announced the winner this Sunday night. This time he was invested in Nupes, after having presented a dissident candidacy in June.
“Congratulations to our socialist colleague Bertrand Petit on his re-election against the RN!”, tweeted the president of the group of deputies of the PS Boris Vallaud.
The outgoing deputy dominated widely in this second round with 66.49% of the votes. The RN candidate collected only 33.51% of the votes, in a second round where only 27.93% of the constituency voters turned out to vote.
“We have a very honorable score in a context of strong abstention. What is sown today will germinate tomorrow: the next time will be the good one!”, tweeted Auguste Evrard, thanking his activists.
Bertrand Petit had already gone very far in the first round with 46.14% of the vote (+23.60 points compared to June), against the candidate RN Auguste Evrard (23.97, -3.49 points).
