The Agriculture Minister announced this Monday that the appointment of a Secretary of State for Agriculture is imminent, without committing to any deadlines, following the resignation of Carla Alves a day after taking office.
“Soon we will have one or more secretaries of state to occupy [o cargo] and be able to serve the Portuguese men and women”, replied Maria do Céu Antunes, on the sidelines of a meeting of the Council of Agriculture Ministers of the European Union in Brussels.
However, Maria do Céu Antunes did not meet a deadline for the appointment of Carla Alves’ successor.
The latest change to the structure of the government, published on January 27, did not concern the Secretary of State for Agriculture and at the time the government explained that under this oversight, matters would be handled by the minister.
In the latest government reshuffle, Carla Alves had taken over as Secretary of State for Agriculture, succeeding Rui Martinho, who had left the post for health reasons.
However, the governor was only in office for one day. The next day, Correio da Manhã reported that Carla Alves’ accounts had been seized as part of a lawsuit against her husband, the former mayor of Vinhais.
Also questioned about the criticism of the Agricultural Confederation of Portugal (CAP) and the minister’s resignation, the minister replied that she is “in Brussels, in defense of the farmers and what their needs are, to ask for the activation of the agricultural reserve. “.
