CNN Portugal/TVI reported on Sunday that the president of the Parish Council of Alcântara was charged by the prosecution with crimes of economic participation in business and abuse of power, in a plan that would have damaged Santa Casa da Misericórdia by more than one. million euros.
In a note published this afternoon on the social network Facebook, Davide Amado states that the facts attributed to him by the Public Prosecutor’s Office “do not correspond to the truth” and that “in due course his “complete innocence” will be restored and consequently proven”.
“However, and because at the present moment in which we live, all suspicion is used as a weapon against political parties, it requires my conscience and sense of militancy to weigh all political consequences that must be withdrawn,” writes the socialist, and underlines that the resignation takes place “without any admission of guilt” and to prevent “the facts from developing into an attack on the Socialist Party”.
The mayor also clarifies that the facts mentioned in the accusation did not occur in the exercise of a public or political office, “but in the context of an employment relationship with one of the above companies”.
