A Minister of Labor in trouble who ends up launching a joke to defend his action. This Tuesday, during the examination of the pension reform, the rebel deputies multiplied the questions regarding Olivier Dussopt. Objective: to know the number of people who will be affected by a minimum pension of 1,200 euros, after the government bill.
And, incidentally, undermine the presidential camp that has maintained the vagueness on this issue. True social banner of its text, this measure was to allow, thanks to a revaluation of 100 euros, to guarantee a minimum pension of 1,200 euros. Yes, but for whom? Many understood that they would be all retirees. Lost: only people with a full career, full time and who have received the Smic throughout their professional life will be affected by this provision.
“None of You Who Would Make It Simpler”
So how many people will be affected? Faced with numerous requests from the elected La France insoumise (LFI), Olivier Dussopt refused to give a precise figure, referring the discussions to the examination of article 10 relating to the revaluation of pensions. Which has very little chance of being discussed at the moment: the debates in the National Assembly end on Friday and article 2 has just been rejected on Tuesday night.
“Not once will I say in front of you ‘there will be close to a unit number of beneficiaries accumulating a pile of 1,200 euros plus 100 euros’ because we will be in orders of magnitude of a few tens of thousands,” explained Olivier Dussopt. “I don’t think there’s one of you that would make it any easier,” he defended himself against the challenges. Before falling for a joke:
“Perfection is rarely found in the mouth of the critic, more often in the hands of the critic.”
Immediate effect: the parliamentarians of the majority applauded it. I am not sure, however, that this will make the opposition forget the government’s difficulties with this measure.
