Pension reform: the motion of no confidence by deputies of Marine Le Pen and RN rejected in large part

As expected, the text presented by the RN group did not convince the deputies. However, he allows his deputies, who were rather discreet during the pension reform project, to put on the clothes of the first opponents of the descent to 64 years of age.

A lost bet. The motion of no confidence, presented to everyone’s surprise by Marine Le Pen on Wednesday night, was largely rejected. Only 89 deputies voted against, requiring a minimum of 287 votes.

The national group Rassemblement, which has 89 deputies, has only managed to replenish its ranks.

“The far right will never change”

While the time chosen by the executive to meet the deadlines for reviewing the pension reform -limited to 10 days- did not allow passing until article 7 on the reduction of the age from 64 years, Marine Le Pen wanted to force the opposition. to position yourself.

If the Nupes are very much opposed to reform as a whole, the Republicans are much more divided. But the rejection of this motion of censure is not a surprise. All groups had opted out of Marine Le Pen’s announcement to vote on this motion. With a message: there is no doubt that the deputies of the other groups add their voice to yours.

“The extreme right will never change, it wants to prosper on the misery of our fellow citizens,” denounced André Chassaigne, president of the majority communist group GDR.

“We will not fall into this trap. I am serious: never, in the name of the necessary reunion of our fellow citizens, in the name of the history of our country, will we mix our votes with those who do not consider all human beings as brothers,” he declared. in the hemicycle.

A rather low-key RN during pension debates.

On paper, the maneuver has the advantage of allowing RN to put on the clothes of the first opponent of the government of the pension reform.

However, the group was relatively low-key during the debates, submitting only 200 amendments out of more than 20,000 in total. The far-right deputies have insisted in the chamber mainly on measures to encourage birth rates.

It could even turn against the opposition in the long term, Olivier Faure judged for his part. The first secretary of the PS thus accused Marine Le Pen of “offering a small victory to the government”.
