The PS will vote against the PSD, Chega and PCP projects to end the payment of tolls, justifying that the government should “present a tariff reduction reform” by June, accusing these parties of “political expediency”.
Speaking to journalists in the Assembly of the Republic, the parliamentary leader of the PS indicated at the end of the bank’s weekly meeting that the party “will vote against all proposals tomorrow” regarding tolls, which will be discussed in plenary next Thursday. meeting will be discussed and voted on Friday.
“We want to reduce the value of tolls and so we voted in favor of the state budget for what is now Article 264.º, which tells the government to propose a rate reduction reform by June 2023, taking into account in particular issues of territorial cohesion”he stressed.
Eurico Brilhante Dias said that “PSD abstained, far right voted in favour, BE voted in favor of this particular article” of the State Budget and accused the parties of “mere tactics and political opportunism” as they assume they will “discuss today what they know they won’t have results until June 2023.”
The chairman of the PS group stated that the issue was discussed “very profusely” and said it was “clear that the parliamentary group has a programmatic commitment to the reduction of tolls”.
Eurico Brilhante Dias referred to “this electoral commitment being reaffirmed here” and criticized that “if there are SCUTS that no longer exist in Portugal, it was because the PPD/PSD wanted it that way in PEC 3”.
Today several projects of PSD, Chega and PCP will be discussed in parliament.
The Social Democrats presented a draft resolution to recommend that the government “comply with what was approved in the state budget and apply an effective 50% discount on tolls in the inner regions”.
Chega proposes through a bill “the implementation of a gradual plan to exempt the payment of tolls across the country” and the PCP introduced several bills for the elimination of tolls on several highways.
The PS parliamentary leader also announced that the Socialist deputies will vote for a final text on higher education, which will “guarantee colleges of higher education the possibility of obtaining a PhD in conditions equivalent to universities”.
This initiative also aims “to respond to the desire to call polytechnic universities abroad polytechnic universities and thus help their internationalization at such an important time for many of these higher education institutions,” Brilhante Dias stressed.
