Pensions: Emmanuel Macron rules out short-term dissolution, reorganization or referendum

The President of the Republic met this Tuesday morning with members of the majority to discuss the post-pension reform.

After a 49.3 to approve the pension reform, and the rejection of the motions of censure this Monday, the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron ruled out in the short term a dissolution of the National Assembly, a reorganization of the government or a referendum , explained to BFMTV several participants in a meeting with the Head of State on Tuesday.

These declarations take place when the protest against the text is very strong in the French population and after several massive mobilizations.

According to one of the participants in the meeting, interviewed by AFP, the head of state nevertheless asked his troops to make “within a maximum period of two or three weeks” “proposals” for a “change of method and agenda of reforms”.

“If we don’t learn anything, we will go from a majority government to a minority government,” Renaissance Secretary General Stéphane Séjourné told BFMTV.

“If it is in the minority and cannot pass any text, we will have to draw other, more radical conclusions for the government.”

An executive from the presidential field told AFP that the president wanted to “identify some clear projects, on a clear agenda,” for example until the 2024 Summer Olympics, “with a clear method,” to “avoid ending up in a challenge to the legitimacy of a text”. The president asked for reform with “fewer laws and more regulations” in the absence of an absolute majority in the National Assembly.

While he is due to speak on Wednesday, Emmanuel Macron has also said he will speak again soon.
