Quatennens: more than 500 feminist activists demand his “resignation of his parliamentary mandate”

So far, the rebel deputy has “retired” from his duties as “coordinator of La France insoumise”. The platform’s signatories also want him to “renounce his parliamentary mandate.”

“The aggressors and perpetrators of violence cannot represent our political struggles.” In a #RelèveFéministe column published by Release, more than 500 feminist activists demand that Adrien Quatennens resign from his mandate as MP for the North. “His confessions of him make him politically responsible”, write in particular the signatories of the text.

“The admitted facts are clear: a slap in the face is an act of physical violence, the confiscation of a telephone and the sending of ‘too many text messages’ correspond to psychological violence”, can be read in the gallery.

In a press release published on Sunday, the rebel acknowledged several acts of violence against his wife, Céline Quatennens, with whom he is in divorce proceedings. This one filed a handrail. On Monday, the Lille prosecutor’s office opened an investigation for “spousal violence”. The elected official has “retired” from his duties as coordinator of La France insoumise (LFI).

Refusal to “military with men perpetrators of violence”

Among the signatories of the platform, we find activists from La France insoumise (LFI), the Socialist Party (PS), Generations but also from Europe Ecologie-Les Verts (EELV). Political training in which the national secretary, Julien Bayou, is accused of psychological violence by his former partner.

“We categorically refuse to campaign with men who are perpetrators of violence,” say those who signed the platform.

Not forgetting to have a word for his “accomplice friends”. Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s reaction is thus mentioned and condemned “with the greatest firmness”. Following Adrien Quatennens’ press release, the rebel leader praised the deputy’s “dignity” and “courage”. Without having a word for his wife, a victim of the violence that the elected official mentions in his text.

“Make political space for feminists”

According to the signatories, “the lack of solidarity and the minimization of the facts contribute to the culture of sexual and gender violence.” And these “behavioral complicities” lead to an “omerta”.

A few hours after his first tweet, Jean-Luc Mélenchon had posted a second. He then explained that he shouldn’t be “indifferent to Céline (Quatennens)”, as he aligns himself behind the fact that she “didn’t want to be quoted”.

Beyond the resignation of the deputy from the North of her parliamentary mandate, the platform calls on “the VSS (male and sexual violence) cell of LFI to seriously consider all the degrees of available sanctions.”

According to the activists, “it is time to give political space to feminists who fight against sexist and sexual violence on a daily basis.” They thus call for a “feminist succession”.
