The People-Animals-Natureza (PAN) party this Thursday submitted a draft resolution to the Assembly of the Republic recommending “the creation of a working group for the purpose of regulating artificial intelligence”.

The text of the initiative’s explanatory memorandum “was fully prepared, except for occasional language changes, by ChatGPT (chat-generative pre-trained transformer)”, the party’s only deputy, Inês Sousa Real, stated in the document.

ChatGPT, a “transformative pre-trained conversation generator, is a prototype AI chatbot developed by OpenAI and specialized in dialogue”.

The PAN says that “artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to bring many benefits to society, such as improvements in efficiency, safety, health and well-being, among others,” but understands that “there are also some risks associated with AI that need to be addressed”.

The party cites the benefits as “greater efficiency and productivity”, “fraud detection, crime prevention and cybersecurity, making people and organizations safer”, “discovery of new medical treatments, accurate diagnoses and personalized care” and improvement of “people’s quality of life”. , for example through virtual assistants for people with disabilities or the elderly”.
