Chega’s leader said this Friday that he will meet with the president of the Republic’s Assembly, Augusto Santos Silva, on the 20th and that he intends to ask for an inspection of “preparatory meetings” of the parliamentary benches.
“Following this meeting, which we consider very serious and which should have consequences of various kinds, Chega asked the President of the Assembly of the Republic for an emergency meeting, a meeting that was granted and scheduled for next week . on the 20. Chega will ask and propose to the President of the Assembly of the Republic that he conducts an inspection of what has happened in the past with regard to these types of preparatory meetings and that he does not allow these types of meetings to continue or can re avoid,” he said.
André Ventura’s statements to journalists follow the controversy surrounding the preparatory meeting between socialist deputies, members of the executive and then-executive chairman of TAP, Christine Ourmières-Widener, for a parliamentary hearing. The January meeting was attended by Socialist deputy Carlos Pereira, who was also a member of the parliamentary inquiry into the airline’s management until Thursday evening.
“I have already said that these meetings are not acceptable and that they should not take place anymore. Therefore, at the moment we are witnessing a ‘blame pass’ within the Socialist Party (PS) or else an incurable divergence between what the parliamentary seat of the PS and what the President of the Assembly of the Republic thinks,” he said.
André Ventura defended that Santos Silva gives directives to socialist deputies so that preparatory meetings of this kind do not occur in the future.
