Montenegro says Costa is “showing fear” of the PSD and showing arrogance by saying nothing about TAP

In a publication on the social network Twitter, shortly after the broadcast of an interview by the general secretary of the PS to RTP, Luís Montenegro wrote that “a prime minister who does not respond to the concerns of the Portuguese shows that he is beyond time”.

“Saying nothing about the mess of the ministers and pretending that TAP is nothing like him shows arrogance and contempt for people’s money. So much concern about the PSD shows fear,” Montenegro said after a week of challenging several times , Costa comments on the alleged contradictions between various members of the government regarding the legal basis for the dismissal of TAP’s executive presidents and board of directors.

In this interview, the general secretary of the PS was asked about this demand by the PSD leader, but he avoided the topic, saying instead that he wanted to know “what is the alternative of the PSD” for the future of the Portuguese airline .

When asked whether he does not understand that he should talk about the existence or not of a legal advice and whether he does not believe that there was “a mess” in the coordination between ministries on this subject, António Costa did not answer directly on the question .

Speaking in general terms to the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into the Political Protection of TAP Management, he defended that the government should not interfere with the powers of other sovereign bodies and that the Commissions of Inquiry should not “hurling a weapon of politics, or if they do not lose credibility “.

According to António Costa, the president of the PSD also has to “wait for the result”, but “he wants to make every statement an episode of the week”.

In the same interview, the leader of the PS also believed that Luís Montenegro did not say what would be necessary to clearly demarcate himself from André Ventura’s party: “With Chega, nothing, nothing, nothing”.

Asked whether he was not reassured when Luís Montenegro ruled out governing in a recent interview with CNN or accepted support from “racist, neither xenophobic, nor opportunist, nor populist” parties, the socialist leader and prime minister stressed “what Do not say”.

“I did not say what was necessary to say: there will be no agreement with Chega,” he emphasized.

“The big problem,” said the PS secretary general, “is not the dimension of Chega itself – which is already significant – but what conditions Chega and determines the political action of the democratic right”.

According to him, “the PSD today often has a behavior, an attitude, a vocabulary that does not correspond to what constitutes an institutional party”.

António Costa gave as an example that “a vice-president of the party” — Paulo Rangel — “gave a press conference questioning the visit of a head of state from a sister country like Brazil” and identified a “massive degradation in the political debate in the vocabulary used by the right today”.

“Worse than the ambiguous situation is that all the political positioning of the PSD, all kinds of statements that the PSD has on migration issues, on the functioning of institutions, the vocabulary it uses, reveal a fundamental concern of the doctor Montenegro, which is that the PSD is not very distinctive for Chega voters,” he insisted.
