The presence of the President of Brazil this morning is a pretext to hold at least two demonstrations with the opposite political signal with Parliament: one promoted by Chega against Lula; and another one for, organized by Brazilians living in Lisbon.
Two other demonstrations were called to the same place, a total of 14 concentrations scheduled in Lisbon today, including the traditional April 25 parade on Avenida da Liberdade, something that will force the PSP to use a huge security device.
André Ventura this Monday already blamed the Chamber of Lisbon for any clashes in advance, saying that by authorizing the simultaneous occurrence in the same place of antagonistic manifestations in his objectives, he had created a potentially explosive situation for the Parliament created.
“The gathering in the same place of thousands of people who have come to protest against the presence of President Lula, organized by Chega, and other counter-demonstrations, is a powder keg around the parliament.”
“The Chamber of Lisbon, in addition to the risks that already existed, decided to strengthen a series of others and allow other demonstrations for a place previously secured by Chega for this demonstration,” he said, warning that ” the participation in the same place of the thousands of people who come to protest against the presence of President Lula, organized by Chega, and other counter-demonstrations, it is a powder keg around Parliament”. In other words: “That should have been arranged by the city council, because they had the time and the opportunity to do that.”
Chega’s leader admitted elements of his party may have used social media to “incite violence”. However, he withdrew. “Any elements found that could incite violence against the Assembly of the Republic, against police forces, against journalists or against politicians” will be “immediately communicated to the authorities”. However, the question of how many were already “nominated” remained unanswered: “I have no knowledge, I am not the one being treated.”
He also spoke of “infiltrators”. “We involve hundreds of people, volunteers and are in regular contact with the police and information authorities to ensure that there will be no violence during the demonstration, that all infiltrators who come to provoke disrespect or an attempt at aggression are , insult or violence against police or political authorities,” he said, adding that these volunteers “will be spread over different areas of the demonstration, in permanent recording, to ensure that any less positive situation is later reported by the authorities can be identified and properly treated.”. “Our demonstration is political, which wants to be heard and felt in a clear way in the country and in the world, but rejects any kind of violence and disrespect that can be provoked,” he assured. And this Monday, as he also said, a preparatory meeting took place in the meeting room of Lisbon between officials of the municipality and the party, with police officers.
This Monday, from 2 p.m., “for reasons of logistical preparation”, cuts were made in four streets in the area of the Assembly of the Republic: Correia Garção, São Bento, Nova da Piedade, Avenida D. Carlos I and Calçada da Star.
