PSD leader Luís Montenegro felt this Sunday that the government was over and that it was PS president Carlos César who admitted it when he asked for “some refreshment” in the socialist executive.
“This government is over in a sense. And I’m not the one saying it. The chairman of the Socialist Party is the one saying it,” said the Social Democratic president in a speech to journalists during a visit to the Ovibeja agricultural fair.
Montenegro stressed that when the PS president says that “the government needs to be revived and renewed”, it means that “he assumes that what this government has done in these 13 months has been a failure and that these leaders are not Good”.
“I agree with him on that point,” he underlined.
The PSD chairman said he believes that if early parliamentary elections come, the Portuguese will “choose another party to lead the government and that party is undoubtedly the Social Democratic Party”.
However, he noted that planning early elections “is in the hands of two people”, that is, it is subject to decisions of the Prime Minister or the President of the Republic, so it is necessary to “respect the position of one” . and the other”.
“This government has failed and is over from the point of view of its room for maneuver to motivate and mobilize Portuguese society,” he stressed, defending that the PS driver “cannot be caught up in all this mess that his activities involve brings”.
Luís Montenegro warned that “either the government changes or the country has to change government”, Luís Montenegro assured that, if there are elections, the PSD is ready to “take over the conduct of government policies that change people’s lives for the better” .
“We have been embroiled in internal problems for 13 months with a Prime Minister who has already shown he is unable to overcome the situation. What is evidence today is that the Prime Minister has lost his ability to lead the government “, he said. stressed out.
When asked by journalists whether the Minister of Infrastructure can remain in office because of the controversy with his former deputy, the PSD chairman replied that “several ministers have been reduced politically”.
“There are many who are politically weakened and vulnerable, but this also stems from the Prime Minister’s lack of authority and leadership capacity,” he stressed, accusing the government of failing to mobilize the Portuguese.
In an interview with the General Interest, published today in the newspaper Público, the president of the PS, Carlos César, defended that the prime minister should assess whether or not there is a need for “some refreshment” in the government, since “greater rigor and discipline” is needed to avoid cases like the one with TAP.
Montenegro demands an explanation of SIS’s performance and criticizes Costa’s absence
The PSD chairman also demanded clarification on the role of SIS in recovering a computer owned by former assistant minister João Galamba and criticized the prime minister for not speaking about the matter.
Speaking to journalists at the Ovibeja Agricultural Fair, the leader of the Social Democrats, Luís Montenegro, believed that the role of the Security Information Service (SIS) in this case “needs to be fully clarified”.
“It is not possible in a state under the rule of law, with the legal and constitutional rules, for the intelligence services to be called upon to do work on behalf of the government, a member of the government or even a member of a government cabinet,” he said. said. .
Montenegro stressed that “information services are not available to the government for the work it intends to request”, stressing that this practice is not enshrined in law or in the constitution.
“The information services have their own law, which governs their operation, and they have a general secretary, who is responsible for enforcing the law and informing the prime minister of what he is doing, who in turn… of the republic,” he added.
In this sense, the Social Democratic leader lists matters that he believes have not yet been clarified, namely whether the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister are already aware of this SIS action.
“It was him [o primeiro-ministro] who gave the order? Who gave the order? What does the Secretary General of the Information System of the Republic say? And what does the prime minister have to say?” he added.
In statements to journalists, Montenegro also noted that Head of Government António Costa has not made any statements on the matter asking “Where is the Prime Minister? Where is the Prime Minister?”.
“The first time the leader of the PSD, regarding the events surrounding the work of the TAP Commission of Inquiry, asked the Prime Minister for clarification was on April 3,” he said.
The PSD leader pointed out that he had already asked for clarification from the prime minister “27 days ago” and has not received a reply so far, accusing Costa of “hiding in formal questions or in semantic questions”.
“The country is not waiting for a quiet word from the prime minister,” he warned, indicating that “Portugal needs a word of calm and motivation for the leader of the government to continue on his way.”
“If that word doesn’t exist, if the prime minister is hiding behind all these controversies, then it’s just another proof that he genuinely lacks the leadership power to carry out his duties,” he added.
