Albuquerque says PS complaint about “fabricated works” in Madeira is “a shot in the foot”

The president of the Madeiran government said on Thursday that the PS’s complaint to the prosecution about “fabricated works” in the region is “a bull’s-eye” and “an attempt to use the judiciary to make politics” .

“How does the PS leave this committee [de inquérito] again completely damaged in what his arguments were, he is trying to use the judiciary to do politics,” said Miguel Albuquerque, emphasizing that “this is nothing new”.

The director of Madeira (PSD/CDS-PP) spoke on the sidelines of a visit to a new restaurant in Funchal, where reacted to the decision of the PS, the largest regional opposition party, to file a complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, announced shortly after it voted against the final report of the Commission of Inquiry on “fabricated works” in Madeira.

The document, which was approved by the PSD/CDS-PP majority on Tuesday, indicates that the regional government neither favored any economic group nor was pressured to fire a government official. crimes.

The Commission of Inquiry was based on a request of a potentative nature submitted by the parliamentary group of the PS/Madeira and was intended to seek the “favor of economic groups by the regional government, by the president of the regional government and regional secretaries and fabricated works, given the confession of the former regional secretary Sérgio Marques, in statements to Diário de Notícias, likely to constitute the practice of several crimes”.

At stake were allegations by Sérgio Marques, in statements to the Diário de Notícias published on January 15, of “works invented from 2000 onwards”, when Alberto João Jardim (PSD) was president of the Madeiran executive, and economic groups that grew with the “Garden Finger”.

The Social Democrat, who also served in the first government of Miguel Albuquerque (PSD) as Regional Secretary for European and Parliamentary Affairs between 2015 and 2017, and was a PSD deputy in the Assembly of the Republic at the time of the statements for the constituency of Madeira, he also stated that he was removed from office due to the influence of a major economic group in the region.

Miguel Albuquerque reaffirmed today that the Commission of Inquiry was important in clarifying public opinion on issues that had been “politically manipulated”, namely port operations and public works, and stressed that the PS’s complaint to the Public Prosecutor’s Office is “a waste of time”.

“I think it is a waste of time, because if there is a crime, the questions asked are unofficial knowledge of the prosecution. That is, there is no need for a complaint, because the prosecution itself is legally obliged to instruction and the investigation,” he emphasized.

On the other hand, the PS also confirmed in a statement today that the final report of the Commission of Inquiry “does not say what happened” and will therefore give its explanation of vote to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, so that it can open an investigation, since “the facts reported by former deputy Sérgio Marques have been denounced, could influence the practice of various crimes”.
