IL recommends that 2nd year students stop doing benchmarking tests on computers

This Tuesday, the Liberal Initiative presented a draft resolution for 2nd year first cycle students to stop conducting assessment tests in digital format by second year students as it is not certain that children of that age can do this computer testing.

In a statement, IL announced the delivery of a draft resolution recommending that the government reverse the implementation of digital benchmarking tests for second grade students between the ages of seven and eight.

“The party believes that the necessary conditions have not been met for children in the 2nd grade to be tested digitally,” the Liberal Initiative said in the statement.

IL demands the government to reverse the decision and argues that “an in-depth analysis and study of the ability of children at this age to perform written tests on computers” has never been carried out.

According to the party, for the tests to be universal in nature, it is “important to guarantee precisely that there are capacities to apply them at a universal level”.

However, IL “believes that the pilot project carried out in the 2021/2022 school year was not sufficient to indicate, detect and detect all the limitations related to the implementation of the digital assessment tests of children in the 2nd grade unload”, refers.

Moreover, he adds, “no preparatory work was done, which is extremely necessary for children to be safe and prepared to take the tests on a computer”.

Another reason given by the party refers to the “difficulties and lack of technical preconditions that many schools have that cause some fears for the successful implementation of the digital tests”.

The IL also expresses concern about “the difference in pedagogical methods in the different schools in the country”, as while many use digital materials to support learning, many others are limited to traditional education, “in which the contact of students with digital equipment is still quite small”.

Finally, the party emphasizes, “not all children have digital equipment at home to learn how to write on digital equipment, which not only becomes a totally unnecessary fear factor, but also proves that supervision outside the school environment is very uneven, which means that external evaluation in this way will exacerbate the reproduction of social inequalities”.

Despite several criticisms from teachers and directors of school groups, the digital tests started this Tuesday.

This year, more than 250,000 students in grades 2, 5, and 8 will take the tests in digital format, which means that the application must be installed to take the tests on 250,000 devices.
