It denounces “the instrumentalization of the just fight against sexual and gender violence”. And this for political purposes. After the announcement of the retirement of Julien Bayou from his functions as national secretary of the EELV and co-president of the environmental group in the National Assembly due to accusations of moral violence against his former partner, his lawyer Marie Dosé spoke this Monday. The opportunity to discuss how the case was brought to light.
“Political ambition cannot justify all crusades,” he said at a press conference, referring to Sandrine Rousseau, first without naming her.
“This vulgar unpacking is unworthy of a society as advanced as ours and Julien Bayou observes with bitterness and anger the instrumentalization of the just fight against sexual and gender violence for political purposes,” he also declared. “No precise fact is ever mentioned, but we like to evoke alleged behaviors ‘of such a nature that they undermine the moral health of women’, which for all this would not be criminally reprehensible… But what exactly are we talking about? asks the lawyer.
For her, “Julien Bayou is presumed guilty of charges made public of which he knows nothing and for which he cannot defend himself.”
Because it is precisely the environmental deputy who, last Monday, had revealed having received Julien Bayou’s former campaign for acts of moral violence. The former candidate for the Greens’ primaries spoke publicly, live on France 5, of “behavior that can harm the moral health of women.”
“Sink into arbitrariness”
A public tiebreaker that does not pass on the side of the main interested party. Through his lawyer, Julien Bayou reminds that there is no legal procedure in progress, but a report to the internal cell of Europe Ecology Les Verts.
“Private life can only be made public if it covers criminally sanctioned conduct, except to run the risk of sinking into arbitrariness,” declared Marie Dosé. “But it is precisely that barrier that has just been crossed with a casual word, at least, disturbing.”
The lawyer also specifies that Julien Bayou has made the request four times to be heard by the cell, without obtaining it so far. Which leaves, in the meantime, according to her, room for all the “false information” about his client.
If he believes that “the cell will necessarily make a biased decision”, he says that he hopes that the party will not give in to “suspicion or exploitation”.
