The chief of staff of former minister Pedro Nuno Santos said this Wednesday that the ministry had no information about the legal support for the amount of compensation paid to Alexandra Reis when she gave “political consolation” to the former TAP executive president.
“We have not received any legal conclusion or legal framework. […] There was no legal conclusion, we had no information about the legal support for that amount [500.000 euros]”said Maria Antónia Araújo of the TAP Commission of Inquiry.
The current Chief of Staff of the Secretary of State for Infrastructure, who worked with the former Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Pedro Nuno Santos, between September 2020 and January 2023, asked the deputies of the commission for an attachment to the report of the audit by the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) containing an email with information from lawyer César Sá Esteves, who negotiated the departure of former TAP administrator Alexandra Reis.
In that email, Maria Antónia Araújo explains, the lawyer “specifically says that he should start writing the terms of the agreement.”
“The final value was never determined by the guardianship, which was given to the guardianship [pela ex-presidente executiva, Christine Ourmières-Widener] it was recommended [de valor de indemnização] and a request for contiguous political comfort, as it is a very expressive value”emphasized the chief of staff.
The official also stressed that, in the process of Alexandra Reis leaving TAP, custody had “an accessory and remote follow-up”.
