This Thursday, the Prime Minister expressed his surprise that the “relevance of the security breach related to secret documents” was undervalued in Portugal, guaranteeing that he would answer PSD questions about the performance of the SIS “by the same route” as when he received them.
“There is one thing that surprises me a little, and that is the way in Portugal that the relevance of security breaches of secret documents is suddenly devalued. We all remember how recently a former president of the United States and the president of the United States was the subject of investigation”noted Antonio Costa.
Speaking to the Portuguese press at the end of the second summit of the European Political Community, in the Moldovan city of Bulboaca, the head of government reiterated that “no one has activated the SIS [Serviço de Informações de Segurança]no one gave instructions to the SIS, everyone already knows the story”.
“The head of the cabinet of the Minister of Infrastructure informed the SIS that there was a security breach involving classified documents and the SIS acted accordingly,” he stressed, pointing out that “it was on her own initiative that she called the SIS”. “This is very clear,” he stressed.
“I would like to know what the opposition would say if I lost a classified document, if there was a security breach in a classified document of mine and I did not report it to the authorities, what would they say?”asked António Costa, asking for “a reflection” on “what is being said because it is fundamental to preserve the institutions”.
When asked about the questions posed by the PSD about SIS’ action in recovering a computer from the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Prime Minister emphasized that he answered “by the same route”, ie through the media.
“Disrespect was not answering the questions. […] I got the questions through the media and answered the same way and they even told me – but I don’t want to believe it – that the PSD had not even formalized the questions with the Assembly of the Republic yet,” he said.
