PR supported state financial aid to the graces

The president of the republic this Thursday asked for continued state financial support to the grace, arguing that this should not be done “with mouthwash” and that the government was speeding up the restructuring of the National Health Service (SNS).

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa spoke at the National Congress of Mercy, in the auditorium of the Order of Chartered Accountants in Lisbon.

With the Minister of Health, Manuel Pizarro, and the President of the PSD, Luís Montenegro, on the front row of assistance, the head of state defended that, with regard to graces, there should be “a fundamental option, which should not be being a government, that it was structural, that it was a regime”.

According to the President of the Republic, “the state today dramatically needs grace, and grace today dramatically needs the state”, and it is necessary to adopt this “paradigm shift”.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa added that if the state “has to help these institutions”, “it has to provide them with the means”, it has to determine how far it can go, for example in financing long-term care, “but in what it covers , sustainable cover”.

“It cannot be that from time to time, when there is a sharp deterioration and a sharp deterioration in the financial situation of the graces, the state remembers that it is necessary to go to the graces, and it reminds from grace after years of protest,” he reflected.

“It can’t be with mouthwash every three years, every two years, whether or not coinciding with election cycles or just the torment of the moment. It’s not possible,” he insisted.

Turning to the mercy, the president of the republic pointed out that public funding “comes at a price: supervision” because “as the state uses public resources, which means the social sector becomes more financially sustainable and more dependent on the state, more needs to be controlled by the state”.

During this intervention, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa took the opportunity to tell the Minister of Health that he hopes that the restructuring of the SNS will “accelerate”, noting: “There is nothing worse than being in the middle of the bridge, it pleases neither one nor the other”.

“It’s a gamble I’m behind, but it has to reach the other side of the bridge,” he added.
