“It’s unrealistic right now.” Bernardo Silva rules out returning to Benfica

The soccer player Bernardo Silva, who plays for Manchester City, assumed this Thursday that he could leave the English club and current European champion next season and admitted that, at this moment, he does not know his future. However, he assured that “it is not realistic” to return to Benfica.

“Honestly, I still don’t know my future. I don’t know. We’ll see in the near future. If I did know, this wouldn’t be the space to talk about it either. But, really, I don’t know. I don’t know,” Bernardo Silva said in press conference, minutes before the new training session for the Portuguese team, which is preparing for Saturday’s duel with Bosnia, qualifying for Euro 2024.

The 28-year-old has spent the last six seasons at Manchester City, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League this season, and is under contract with the citizens until July 2025.

Asked about a possible return to Benfica, the club where he did all his training and of which he is a supposed follower, he rejected any possibility of that happening.

“Only to finish the subject, because I know that the people are speaking. It is not realistic. The people know what I feel for the club. It is not realistic to talk about it at this moment. It will not happen”, stressed the Portuguese international.

This season, Bernardo Silva played 55 games for Manchester City. He still feeds, he admits, “the dream” of winning a World Cup or a Euro Cup with the national team: despite having been initially chosen in 2016, he missed the Euro Cup that Portugal would finally win due to injury.
