Sporting was crowned three-time national futsal champion this Wednesday, beating Benfica 2-1, after extra time, in the fourth game of the championship play-off final, which they won 3-1.
After the 5-1 and 3-2 wins, the latter in extra time, and the 3-2 defeat at the home of the ‘incarnated’, the ‘lions’ achieved their third victory in the bastion of the ‘eagles’, that still Afonso took the lead on the scoreboard, in the 23rd minute, but the ‘lions’ reacted immediately and tied the next minute, thanks to Zicky Té.
The goal that dictated the victory was scored in extra time by Pauleta, at 44 minutes.
The Alvalade club thus reached its 18th national futsal champion title, further reinforcing its status as record holder of trophies, now with 10 more than its Lisbon rival, which has eight.
