Red Bull brings Formula 1 to Lisbon with the promise of being “a great show”

The showrun of the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team will bring to Lisbon, on Sunday, “a great spectacle,” said former driver David Coulthard, who will drive the car that led Sebastian Vettel to the world title in 2011.

The event, which will take place on Sunday afternoon in the Belém neighborhood, will bring back, 15 years later, a Formula 1 car to the streets of Lisbon, as part of the official program of the city’s festivities, in which that access is free for the general public.

“I am very proud to have the opportunity to be in Lisbon, as Estoril played an important role in my career. It will be a great show. Those who are already fans of Formula 1 will remember the energy there is in the [motor] V8. Those of you who have never seen Formula 1, hopefully we will get new fans”, stressed the Scottish ex-driver.

In a press conference to present the event, David Coulthard recalled the previous ‘showruns’ in which he participated and the large number of people, in a modality that “covers all ages” and influences future technologies.

“It is always a sport that influences future technologies, in terms of mobility. In current regulations, they are the most efficient engines in the world and have an impact on the automotive industry. It’s more than racing on a track,” he says. stressed.

David Coulthard was part of Red Bull’s debut in Formula 1, in 2005, was the author of the first podium (2006) and was the team’s first great driver, before the ‘reform’, in 2008, at a time when that the ‘scuderia’ achieved, last week, victory number 100.

“To have 100 Formula 1 victories since the team was formed in 2005 is fantastic. It’s a very short time to achieve such success,” said Coulthard.

The feat was achieved by the Dutchman Max Verstappen, current two-time world champion and who is on his way to his third consecutive title, at the age of 25: “He is still young. He could rewrite the Formula 1 history books. No I don’t think it’s a question of breaking records to be a great driver.Si Lewis [Hamilton] never being able to win an eighth world title doesn’t mean you’re not better than Michael [Schumacher]”.

Coulthard also said he would like to see Portugal back on the calendar, calling the Portimão circuit “fantastic” although “a lot of investment and infrastructure is needed to meet the same levels of other government-funded tracks.”

Also present at the presentation was the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, who highlighted the importance of hosting this event and Red Bull, a brand that fits into the “capital of innovation and culture” strategy that the city wants to have.

“It is part of the strategy we have for Lisbon and for the future of the city. It is these types of events, which provide us with modernity and efficiency for the future, such as having a more sustainable world. Red Bull has this social responsibility and has this area of sustainability, which is a path that will differentiate cities”, said the mayor.

Revealing that he is a fan of Formula 1, Carlos Moedas explained the reasons that led him to have this ‘passion’: “It is an extraordinary sport, since it has the recipe for success in life: on the one hand, dreams and emotions and, on the other hand, the attention to detail”.

The politician has also highlighted that the Red Bull ‘showrun’ is a “great warm-up” for the World Youth Days, which will be held from August 1 to 6, which plans to bring together more than one million people in Lisbon and highlights the visit of the Pope

The Red Bull Showrun in Lisbon starts at 3:00 p.m. and will last until 6:15 p.m., with, in addition to demonstrations with the RB7, drifting, break, music and even popular marches, between the Carriage Museum and the Center Cultural of Belem. In the morning, the public will be able to visit the ‘paddock’ and see the car up close.
