Red Bull replaces Nyck De Vries with Daniel Ricciardo in Alpha Tauri

Red Bull announced on Tuesday the arrival of Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo to his satellite team, Alpha Tauri, replacing the Dutchman Nyck de Vries, whose results did not convince those responsible for the energy drink brand.

The British GP, the tenth race of the season, was the last for Nyck de Vries, having finished in 17th position.

Formula E champion in 2021, the 28-year-old Dutch driver made his Formula 1 debut in 2022, when he was called up to replace Thai Alexander Albon at Williams at the Italian GP.

At the time, De Vries surprised with a ninth-place finish in the race, earning him a wild card from Red Bull to partner Japan’s Yuki Tsunoda in Alpha Tauri.

However, with 12th in Monaco the best result so far, Nyck de Vries ends up losing his place to Daniel Ricciardo, who returned to Red Bull this year as a reserve driver after terminating his McLaren contract early at the end of the year. 2021, and that he will be on loan at Alpha Tauri for the remainder of the season.

“Daniel is back,” the Faenza team wrote on their social networks, announcing the arrival of the Australian, who today tested tires for the main team, at Silverstone (Great Britain).

“It’s amazing to see that he didn’t lose anything during his absence. His times were incredibly competitive,” said Briton Christian Horner, Red Bull team boss.

Daniel Ricciardo will make his Hungarian GP debut on July 23.

“I’m excited to get back on track with the Red Bull family,” said the driver, quoted in a team statement.
