The Portuguese soccer team remained today in ninth place in the FIFA ranking, despite not having managed to be in the ‘final four’ of the League of Nations, in a list that continues to be headed by Brazil.
The results in the last two games of the League of Nations, in which they beat the Czech Republic (4-0) and lost at home to Spain (1-1), did not lead to any change in hierarchy for the team led by coach Fernando Saints
Brazil remained at the top of the standings, followed by Belgium and rival Argentina, with Italy overtaking Spain in sixth place, the only change in the top-10.
Of Portugal’s opponents in Group H at the 2022 World Cup, South Korea, led by Portuguese coach Paulo Bento, remains in 28th place, while Uruguay dropped to 14th and Ghana to 61st.
Among the other teams managed by Portuguese coaches, Iran, managed by Carlos Queiroz, rose to 20th place, Nigeria, managed by José Peseiro, dropped to 32nd place, and Egypt, managed by Rui Vitória, moved up to 39th place.
Bahrain, led by Hélio Sousa, rose to 85th place and Togo, led by Paulo Duarte, fell to 127th.
As for the Portuguese-speaking African countries, Cape Verde remains the only team in the top-100, in 71st place, followed by Mozambique (114), Guinea-Bissau (116), Angola (119th) and Santo Tome and Prince (186th). Macau remains at 182 and Timor-Leste moved up to 198.
