Portuguese coach Renato Paiva resigned from Bahia a few days after the home draw against Vasco da Gama that left the side in 16th place, close to the relegation zone in the Brazilian football championship.
“Esporte Clube Bahia communicates that Renato Paiva is no longer the coach of the team. In Salvador, the professional submitted his resignation since December last year”mentioned the Brazilian club on its official page.
Renato Paiva was announced as coach of Bahia in early December last year and led the team in 51 games, with 20 wins, 15 draws and 16 losses, in a campaign that saw him win the state title.
Previously, the Portuguese coach guided the Ecuadorians of Independiente del Valle and the Mexicans of Club León, after a career in which he was always linked to the formation of Benfica.
The Brasileirão also has five Portuguese coaches in office, namely Abel Ferreira (Palmeiras), Pedro Caixinha (Bragantino), Bruno Lage (Botafogo), Armando Evangelista (Góias) and António Oliveira (Cuiabá).
