Pedro Walgode and Mariana Pinheiro are world figure skating champions in solo dance competition

The Portuguese Pedro Walgode became world figure skating champion this Thursday in the ‘solo dance’ competition for seniors, in Ibagué, Colombia, the Portuguese Skating Federation (FPP) reported today.

“The Portuguese finished the style dance competition in third place, recovering impressively with first place in the free dance competition, which allowed him to win the world title, with a total of 156.78 points,” highlighted the FPP. , it’s a statement.

Pedro Walgode, who had already been world champion and won the world games with his sister Ana Walgode, in pairs dancing, won this year, on September 1, the gold medal at the European Championships in Ponte di Legno, Italy.

Walgode stated that “this achievement represents the culmination of 20 years of sporting career,” according to the same note.

“This year I decided to do Solo Dance and I had no expectations of getting where I am. I couldn’t be happier to have come this far and it means recognition of all the work, every day, everything I invested in this sporting career. “And gold is gold on blue. The Portuguese Mariana Pinheiro was proclaimed world figure skating champion, also in the solo dance competition, but in the junior category.

The athlete, European runner-up in Italy, is the first Portuguese in the history of this sport in Portugal to win gold in the world championship of the discipline, in individual events.

In the junior men’s category, Diogo Costa became world figure skating champion in the same event, after winning the silver medal in Italy.

The Portuguese Ernesto Silva finished in 6th position in the final ranking, in seniors, with 124.09 points.

The World Championship began on Tuesday and will continue until September 30, with Portuguese participation ending on the 28th, with the national free skating team.
