Goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos saw his case closed due to the amnesty law that came into force after the arrival of Pope Francis to Portugal, as revealed this Tuesday by the Disciplinary Council of the Portuguese Football Federation.
At issue were the words of the Greek international, who left Benfica to join Nottingham Forest, in England, in the last transfer market, after the classic FC Porto-Benfica match, on October 21, 2022, which ended with victory for the Eagles. for 1-0.
Vlachodimos criticized the FC Porto team, already in the Estádio do Dragão locker room, with a phrase that became public when the third episode of the Lisbon club’s documentary, produced by B Play, was released.
«Determine the filing of the files for the extinction of disciplinary responsibility regarding the accused Odysseas Vlachodimos, in accordance with the provisions of articles 21, al. g), and 25, No. 1, both of the RDLPFP, and in articles 2 and 6 of Law No. 38-A/2023, of August 2,” reads the published sanctions map.
However, Benfica, national champion, must pay a fine of 16,320 euros for “damaging the honor and reputation of the bodies of the sports structure and its members.”
Sporting goalkeeper António Ádan also saw his registration removed by the CD. It was about the expulsion in the home victory on May 13 against Marítimo (2-1), after receiving two yellow cards, in a match on matchday 32 of the 1st Portuguese Football League 2022/23 , having been prevented from playing in the next round, in the match against Benfica.
This decision comes after the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled in favor of the goalkeeper, who had already served his sanction.
