Barata completed the route in 01:01.29 hours, which allowed him to improve the personal record that he had already set this year, in Barcelona, in February, when he ran in 01:01.40, reaching at the time the third best time for a Portuguese in a half marathon.
With the time recorded today in Latvia, the Benfica athlete surpassed Joaquim Pinheiro (01:01.36 hours, in Berlin, in 1992) and is only behind Luís Jesus, who has the best Portuguese time in the distance, with 01:00.56 , in Kosice. , Slovakia, in 1997.
The half marathon of the World Road Championships was won by Kenyan Sabastian Kimaru Sawe, in 59.10 minutes, on a podium completed by his compatriots Daniel Simiu Ebenyo (59.14) and Samwel Nyamai Mailu (59.19), second and third. , respectively.
