Previously, Jorge Fonseca defeated Romanian Asley González, former Olympic Vice Champion, World Champion and Pan-American Champion, still in the -90 kg category, and Serbian Bojan Dosen, with ‘ippon’, and in the quarter-finals gave to Kotsoiev .
