French striker Kylian Mbappe will earn a record €131 million in annual revenue, taking the top spot on the list of the world’s highest-paid footballers, according to a report by Forbes magazine.
The magazine noted that Mbappe crossed the €100 million mark at the age of 23, while legends such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were in their 30s and at the peak of their careers when they first crossed that line.
Mbappe signed a three-year contract extension in May to remain at Paris-Saint Germain. According to Forbes, the deal will bring Mbappé about $112 million in salary and seasonal bonuses, in addition to an estimated $18 million in annual revenue from companies like Nike, Dior, Hublot and Oakley.
Mbappé was featured on the cover of the EA Sports FIFA video game, founded the production company Zebra Valley and is an investor in the NFT Sorare platform.
“He’s already a global icon,” Sorare co-founder Nicolas Julia told Forbes. “He wants to help the world and also show that huge things can be built from France.”
PSG team-mate Messi, 35, is in second place with €123 million and Ronaldo, 37, at Manchester United, is in third place with €102 million.
In total, the top ten will receive approximately €669 million this season, an increase of 11% from last year’s figures. Mbappe, Messi and Ronaldo together account for more than half of that total.
