Midfielder Danilo will miss Portugal’s final two matches in the qualifying stages for Euro2024 football due to a muscle injury, his club, Paris Saint-Germain, announced on its official website on Thursday.
In the medical report, the French club explained that the 32-year-old player has a problem with his right thigh and that he will undergo treatment in the coming weeks, also missing three matches for the Parisians.
Danilo is therefore a certain victim in the duels that Portugal will have with Liechtenstein, in Vaduz, on November 16, and with Iceland, on November 19, at the José Alvalade Stadium in Lisbon.
The national team already has guaranteed qualification for the next European Championship, which will take place in Germany, as well as first place in Group J, which also includes Slovakia, Luxembourg and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Danilo recently reached his 70th cap for Portugal and will finish the qualifying phase with six games, all as a starter. The midfielder, who sometimes also plays in central defense, had only missed the two matches against Slovakia.
As for Paris Saint-Germain, Danilo will be absent from two French league matches, against Montpellier and Reims, and one in the Champions League, against Rafael Leão’s AC Milan.
In the same medical bulletin, the French champions recalled that Nuno Mendes, another Portuguese international, is still recovering from an injury to his right hamstring.
Vitinha and Gonçalo Ramos are the other Portuguese who play for PSG.
