Rochele Nunes, a judoka of Brazilian origin who was present at her sixth World Cup, Portugal’s third, since naturalizing in 2019, could not undo Tolofua’s favoritism, fourth in the world ranking.
The Benfica judoka (16th) began the competition beating the Czech Marketa Paulusova (78th), with a ‘waza-ari’ followed by a pin (‘osaekomi’), but against Tolofua, whom she had beaten once and lost twice , lost the same way.
In the Smoke Arena, Nunes went ahead, with a ‘waza-ari’ in the middle of the fight, but Tolofua, forced to attack, annulled the advantage and, following the movement, immobilized the Portuguese judoka.
