A Paris Saint-Germain fan, who faces AC Milan in the Champions League in Italy on Tuesday, was “severely injured” with a knife in clashes with Italian supporters on Monday evening, authorities said.
The French fan suffered “two stab wounds to the leg” and was taken to hospital, Italian police said in a press release. According to the Transalpine daily Corriere della Sera, the stabbed fan is 34 years old and his life is not in danger.
The matchday four meeting of Group F of the Champions League between AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain was classified as ‘high risk’, mainly due to the arrival in Italy of 4,300 Parisian fans.
Witnesses told police that a clash took place between about fifty AC Milan fans and Paris Saint-Germain supporters in the Navigli district on Monday evening.
The incident comes less than two months after a Newcastle fan was stabbed in the same area of the Lombardy city before a Champions League match against AC Milan.
Paris Saint-Germain leads Group F with six points, followed by Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle, second and third respectively, with four, while AC Milan are fourth with two.
