The Attorney General opens an investigation into FC Porto AG postponed for contempt

The Porto District Prosecutor General’s Office opened an investigation into the events that occurred at the general assembly (GA) of FC Porto, which took place on Monday night and ended up being postponed due to attacks between fans.

“Taking into account the events that occurred in the general assembly of the Futebol Clube do Porto, which began on 13.11.2023, widely reported in the media and likely to include crimes of a public nature, it was determined to open an investigation, which executes mandates in the Diap of the Public Ministry of Porto”, reads a statement released by the Public Ministry.

The investigation is taking place in the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action of the Public Ministry of Porto.

The FC Porto GA that took place on Monday night was suspended after altercations in the stands and work will resume next Monday, November 20, at 9 p.m., at the Dragão Arena.

Meanwhile, the club’s management assured that it will identify the fans involved in the “physical attacks” and that it will “mobilize the rest of the social bodies with a view to opening a disciplinary file.” The dragons regret the lack of respect that, they say, “is reprehensible and tarnishes a centuries-old history of democratic culture.”

The attacks between associates that occurred during the intervention of a member of the statute review commission and after the participation of an associate ended up forcing those responsible to suspend the GA.

“The management of FC Porto will do everything possible to help the board of the General Assembly to guarantee maximum security conditions at the meeting next Monday,” the club assures.

On a positive note, FC Porto highlights that “a much larger number of members participated in this assembly than usual, which is a sign of the vitality of FC Porto and its associative dimension.”

Everything was prepared for the GA to take place in the Auditorium of the Estádio do Dragão, with capacity for almost 400 people, but the large attendance of members forced the organization to move the work to the Dragão Arena, where the attacks occurred.
