Fifth place in the 400 meter freestyle and two national records in the European Short Course Championship

This Sunday, swimmer Francisca Martins qualified fifth in the 400 meter freestyle in the European short course, with a new national record, also achieved by Diogo Ribeiro, seventh in the 100 meter freestyle in Romania.

In Otopeni, and after reaching the final with the eighth time, with 4.07.36 minutes, Francisca Martins substantially improved her performance, dropping almost three seconds, to 4.04.57, still about 3.5 seconds from the bronze.

The Italian Simona Quadarella took the gold with 3.59.50, beating the French Anastasiia Kirpichnikova by six hundredths of a second, who took the silver, while the bronze went to the Belgian Valentine Dumont, by 1.34 seconds.

Diogo Ribeiro had been eighth in Saturday’s semifinals, with 46.95 seconds, and his national record, now set at 46.61, which improves his own reference mark by four hundredths (46.65), allowed him to move up one position until reaching seventh position.

The Frenchman Maxime Grousset is the new champion, in 45.46, beating the Italian Alessandro Miressi by five hundredths of a second and the Romanian David Popovici by 59.

In the morning, the mixed 4×50 medley relay also set a new Portuguese record, with Camila Rebelo, Gabriel Lopes, Ana Guedes and Miguel Nascimento taking five seconds off the mark, setting it at 1.42.17 minutes (the previous one was 1.47, 18), time he obtained 13th position.
