Paris 2024. Surfing will have a new judges tower with less environmental impact

The Government of Brazil decided to build a “reduced and less impactful version” of the new judges’ tower for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the International Surfing Federation (ISA) announced this Friday.

The decision came after territorial authorities suspended tests for the construction of the tower in Teahupo’o, following an incident with a barge that damaged a coral reef at the site where the Paris 2024 surfing competitions will take place.

“In the coming days, marine studies of the site and a construction test will be carried out,” said ISA, in a statement, reaffirming that “it will continue to defend an environmentally sustainable solution” for the replacement of the old tower, which does not meet the necessary requirements. .

The next edition of the Olympic Games will take place between July 26 and August 11, 2024.
