FC Porto will face Arsenal in the round of 16 of the Champions League, according to Monday’s draw, which took place in Nyon, Switzerland.
In terms of direct clashes between FC Porto and Arsenal, there are six matches, with two wins for Porto, one draw and three defeats. The last time the two clubs met was in the round of 16 of the 2009/10 Champions League. The Dragons defeated the English 2-1 at home and were defeated 5-0 in London, a result that dictated FC Porto’s removal from the million-dollar competition.
The English team currently leads the English League with 39 points, one more than Liverpool and Aston Vila, second and third respectively.
The London team, coached by Spaniard Mikel Arteta, features two Portuguese players: Cédric Soares and former Porto player Fábio Vieira – the latter will therefore reunite with the club where he played for several years and spent all his training.
The draw also dictated that Barcelona will face Napoli, while Real Sociedad will face Paris Saint-Germain. Atletico Madrid will face Inter in the eighth finals and Borrussia Dortmund will face PSV Eindhoven.
Lazio-Bayern Munich, Copenhagen-Manchester City and Leipzig-Real Madrid are the remaining matches in the round of 16 of the Champions League.
After finishing in 2nd place in Group H, with the same points as Barcelona, Sérgio Conceição’s team will play the first leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League at home, on February 13, 14, 20 or 21, 2024.
The return match will be played on March 5, 6, 12 or 13.
The Champions League final will take place at Wembley Stadium in London.
