The creator of the electronic platform Football Leaks, Rui Pinto, declined to make further statements in court on Monday, after four sessions in which he spoke with the collective of judges.
Rui Pinto began making statements to the jury on October 10, which has been assessing him since September 4, 2020, as part of a trial in which he will respond to a total of 90 crimes.
At the beginning of this Monday’s hearing, after the accused’s intention had become known, Doyen’s lawyer requested the reproduction and assessment of the statements made before the investigating judge on March 22, 2019.
Francisco Teixeira da Mota, Rui Pinto’s lawyer, opposed the reproduction but went to review the statements, in which there are some contradictions between those provided in the trial and in the previous procedural stage.
Rui Pinto, 34, is responsible for a total of 90 crimes: 68 of unauthorized access, 14 of breach of correspondence, six of illegal access, targeting entities such as Sporting, Doyen, the law firm PLMJ, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), and also by computer sabotage of Sporting’s SAD and by extortion, in the attempt. This latest crime concerns Doyen and also led to the indictment of lawyer Aníbal Pinto.
The creator of Football Leaks has been free since August 7, 2020, “due to his collaboration” with the Judicial Police (PJ) and his “critical sense”, but has been placed under witness protection at an undisclosed location and under police protection for security reasons.
