The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) today decreed a minute of silence in honor of former player Fernando Gomes, a gesture that is fulfilled in all the challenges that are played this weekend and on Monday.
“For the information of the members of the FPF and other interested parties, we inform that the management of the Portuguese Football Federation determined the observance of a minute of silence in memory of the former player Fernando Gomes, in all the games of the competitions organized by her, between 11/26/2022 and 11/28/2022”, wrote the organization, in a brief note.
Former Portuguese international striker Fernando Gomes, winner of two Golden Boots and top scorer in the history of FC Porto, a club in which he played from the youth ranks and represented 13 seasons in the first division, passed away today at the age of 66, due to to a prolonged illness, revealed the national soccer champion.
The ‘Golden Boot’ of the 1982/83 and 1984/85 seasons and current member of the FC Porto board of directors in training, who was recently admitted to a hospital in Porto, left the club “in mourning for the loss of one of its great figures”.
The Portuguese international also represented Sporting and Spanish side Sporting de Gijón, both for two seasons.
