The Portuguese soccer coach, Fernando Santos, expressed his sadness at the death of the Portuguese former player and international Fernando Gomes, who passed away this Saturday, at the age of 66, due to a prolonged illness.
“We have just found out about the sad departure of Fernando, the ‘bibota’. It’s a sad time for everyone. On my behalf and on behalf of everyone’s team, we leave our wishes of condolences to the bereaved family, and also to the Porto family,” Fernando Santos transmitted, in a video released by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).
With the Al-Shahaniya training center in Qatar as a backdrop, the coach said that everyone in the Portuguese environment “will pray” for Fernando Gomes: “May his soul rest in peace. To all, our condolences.”
The Portuguese team is in Qatar participating in the Soccer World Cup, which will last until December 18.

Fernando Gomes represented the national team in 44 games, scoring 11 goals with “quinas” on his chest, having participated in the 1984 Euro Cup in France and the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
