The Royal Spanish Football Federation announced this Thursday that Luis Enrique is no longer the coach of Spain.
The official statement comes less than 48 hours after the Spanish elimination against Morocco, on penalties, in the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar. “The RFEF wants to thank Luis Enrique and his entire technical team for his work at the helm of the team in recent years,” the statement read.
Luis de la Fuente, U-21 coach, will be his successor in office, with a view to starting preparations for qualifying for Euro 2024 (Spain is in group A, with Georgia, Cyprus, Scotland and Norway).
Luis Enrique, 52, has been the Spanish coach since 2018, when, after the World Cup in Russia, he succeeded Fernando Hierro.
In total, Luis Enrique made 40 official matches as coach, adding 23 wins, 12 draws and 5 losses.
