The Croats celebrated so much against Brazil that earthquakes were registered

Seismographs from the Department of Geophysics of the Faculty of Natural Sciences in Zagreb recorded seismic movements caused by the celebrations during the match against Brazil, which qualified Croatia for the semifinals of the World Cup.

The information was released today by the Faculty which, on its page on the social network Facebook, also published photos of its seismograms that show the movements, explaining that the registered undulations are not characteristic of “real earthquakes”.

According to information from the Department of Geophysics of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, the first registered movements coincided with the moment in which Bruno Petkovic tied the match (1-1), in the second half of extra time.

When goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic saved the first penalty and, finally, when the Croats won the game after the missed penalty by Brazilian Marquinhos, there were also movements.

The seismographs also say that the most striking seismic disturbances were registered in Zagreb and Rijeka, the two main cities of the Balkan country, where many fans celebrated after the game.
